‘Get Real’ – Meet the Artists with Gail & Caroline
Today we had a beautiful afternoon in the garden enjoying the company of Gail Reid and Caroline Le Vine who’s work features in our current exhibition ‘Get Real’. Visitors had the chance to talk to Gail and Caroline as part of our Meet the Artists event. It was a great chance to ask questions and learn a bit more about their practice.
Caroline creates non representational work, relying on her intuition rather than observation. Her painting are a reflection of feelings and emotions and are often built up of many layers with parts hidden and parts revealed. Aside from being an artist, Caroline is a practicing psychotherapist which adds an interesting extra element to what she creates.
Gail is a multi-faceted classical artist who can turn her hand to many mediums. She has a particular interest in embracing a sense of realness, celebrating all the things that make us different. Which is very evident in much of her life drawing work.
Gail gave a talk to a room full of visitors about ‘Body Image Through The Eyes of an Artist’. A fascinating insight to her thoughts on the human body and realness. As an artist who draws from life Gail celebrates human imperfection, and is very passionate about representing real bodies within both arts and the media. She spoke a bit about the art of life drawing and how it can be a powerful, constructive and transformative process.
For those of you who were unable to be here in person the talk is available to view on our Facebook page. And will be uploaded to our YouTube Chanel in the next few days.
We also had a visit from the lovely Dave Beech, who spoke to Gail and will be broadcasting their chat about the gallery and exhibition on his radio show on GFM.
“It was great to meet so many gallery visitors, and to feel the buzz of people discussing the exhibition and relaxing in the walled garden. Overjoyed to have my work in such a friendly and welcoming gallery, I can’t wait to see Frank’s show in June” – GAIL REID
“What an amazing afternoon! It was such a joy to meet so many people and to hear Gail’s deeply moving talk. Happily, I had several conversations about authenticity which, after all, is the theme of the show. The gallery garden was the perfect setting for us all to mingle and discuss art, life and the sheer delight of sitting in the sun with new friends. I was delighted by the distances people had travelled in order to see the show – we met people from as far away as Bristol, Bath and Yeovil, and I know of one person who caught 2 rural buses each way in order to visit the exhibition which is total commitment in my book!” – CAROLINE LE VINE
We would like to thank everybody who came and joined us today and we look forward to many more events in the future.
