Screen Printing for Good Mental Health
Kim is the Gallery Manager here at Heart of The Tribe, she is also a practicing artist herself, and one of our Core Artists, and her work can be spotted around various parts of Glastonbury town as part of The Glastonbury Mural Trail.
She works in various mediums and during the period of lockdown she has thrown herself passionately into Screen Printing.
Utilising the fabulous Workshop/Event space at the end of the Garden at the Gallery, Kim has created a temporary print room and has worked on a variety of unique designs using a mixture of traditional photographic screens, using adaptions of her photographic work and a selection of hand cut paper stencils.
She has also created a set of one of a kind prints based on our Logo which will be available to purchase at Heart of The Tribe. And has also been developing her body of work based on the human form, layers and patterns mixing elements of her photography with a variety of geometric stencils that she has been collecting over the past couple of years. Her work echoes influences of the pop art era and is always colourful and playful.
She says of this recent period “I knew that to stay sane during these strange times I would have to get creative. This space at the Gallery has been perfect, it is so bright and welcoming and the garden makes me feel like I’m in some kind of luxurious parallel universe. Its strange to be able to escape to such a beautiful outdoor space right in the centre of town. The workshop area has been a godsend, it felt so disheartening to be stopped before we even started with the opening of the gallery being postponed but being able to utilize this room to get creative made everything more bearable. I am really excited to be able to share this amazing space with everyone in the future. In the meantime I have managed to develop a body of work that I am really proud of. I even spent a couple of days teaching my six year old son how to screenprint, which was very rewarding.”
