Ade Adesina

A multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans printmaking, painting, and sculpture. His work offers a compelling visual commentary on ecology and the evolving state of our world, often exploring the intersection of nature, culture, and humanity. Ade’s imagery is rich with symbolism, weaving together past, present, and speculative futures to challenge the viewer’s perception of time, place, and responsibility. Deeply engaged with current affairs, his art references cultural narratives within broader socio-political contexts, prompting reflection on how history, migration, and environmental change shape our collective consciousness.

Originally from Nigeria and now based in Aberdeen, Scotland, Adesina studied printmaking at Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, graduating in 2012. A traditional printmaker with a contemporary voice, he draws on techniques that require time, patience, and precision, producing large-scale, intricate works that invite close inspection and critical thought.

Adesina is a Royal Scottish Academician, a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and a member of The London Group. His work has taken him across borders, participating in international residencies including Eton College, Glasgow Print Studio, Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Engramme in Quebec, Canada, and most recently Fossekleiva Kultursenter Berger Museum in Norway (2024).

In 2023, Adesina was awarded the prestigious Mario Avati Engraving Prize by the Académie des Beaux-Arts, France, an honour that recognises his significant contribution to contemporary printmaking.

Ade Adesina’s practice continues to resonate globally, reflecting an artist who not only records the changing world but also asks what kind of future we are creating within it.
