Petra Frankova
A Czech-born artist whose practice centres on intricate pencil drawings and etchings. A graduate of the Swedish Academy of Realist Art (2020), she combines classical technique with a surreal, symbolic sensibility that invites quiet introspection and layered interpretation.
Franková’s work explores the interplay of natural forms, mythic elements, and emotional undercurrents. Her compositions often feature dense foliage, reptilian textures, and shrouded figures, creatures and presences that seem to whisper from beneath the surface. Rooted in realism but infused with atmosphere and ambiguity, her drawings evoke a sense of unease and fascination, balancing delicacy with psychological weight.
Symbolism plays a defining role in her work. Fragmented narratives are embedded in each piece, tales told through mood rather than outright explanations. This dreamlike quality, paired with Franková’s fine technical control, gives her drawings a compelling tension between beauty and darkness.
Since graduating, she has participated in several international group exhibitions, including Power in Numbers 7 at Nucleus Portland, the 1st International GCB MiniPrint in Berlin, and the 4th International Biennial of Artworks on Paper in Prijedor. Her work has also been featured in multiple shows. Now working independently, Petra Franková continues to develop a unique personal visual language.
