“One of my favorite aspects of Irish myth is the aisling, a vision of love or sovereignty delivered by a nature goddess or the land itself. In the dream of Aengus, a beautiful woman visits him at night over and over again, until, sick with longing, he sets out to find her only to discover that she has been cursed to live half the year as a swan. He manages to embrace her and turn himself, and they fly off to Brú na Bóinne and a happy eternity.”
