The Corner Store’s Mural by Jon Minshull
Jon Minshull has recently completed this spectacular artwork. We are incredibly proud to have sponsored this exceptional new addition to the Glastonbury Mural Trail to mark the 2 year anniversary of its launch. This is the 4th Mural we have sponsored for the Trail as we are huge fans of this community project.
This traditional landscape depicting a stunning view of the levels and wetlands surrounding our town is on the side of The Corner Store’s on the corner of Northload Street and Manor House Road. Greeting visitors as they drive into town from the A39 and putting smiles on the faces of the local residents and members of our community. From the start of the process this mural has garnered much interest and a very positive response form passers by, with people coming from far and wide to watch it take shape after seeing photos of it on social media. We’ve had people come down all the way from Bristol on the bus, locals visiting from nearby towns and villages and the whole of the Womens Institute form Keinten Mandeville come especially to take a look at its progress. It even made an appearance on the BBC Points West evening news and Jon was Inteviewed on BBC Radio Somerset.
The painting has a real sense of depth making the viewer feel like part of the scene. It is a celebration of nature and invokes a sense of calm and joy. Giving a feel for the land that used to be. Featuring a field of playfull cattle, the nearby wetlands and a view of Glastonbury Tor, the hidden detail boasts a variety of native birds as well as a hare, fox, cat, water vole and some otters. There is even a little horse and cart, which is an ode to Di, the shop owner as a toddler joining her grandfather to deliver Peat from Sharpham to the farmers and households in Glastonbury.
Even the wooden sign, which has been there for over 40 years was restored, but keeping that weathered look. Big Thank you to Kim von Coels for her help with this and much of the preperation work on the wall and general organisation for this mural.
